The Main Tarmac Road Maintenance between Ceeley and Alhamdulilaah in Karkaar region is being undertaken by Puntland Highway Authority (PHA) Engineers to repair the only road which connects all regions of Puntland as well as the entire Somalia which deteriorates over time, mainly as a result of water and traffic. The works concern a total length of 54 kilometers.

On 26th Nov, 2022 PHA CEO Deputy Abdirizak Mohamed Hayir leading a group of PHA engineers joined the rehabilitation crew today to monitor and encourage the works of repairing.

PHA carry out maintenance activities, Repairs are made to the road surface and shoulder, the culverts and the other physical road structures.

The improved road condition generally results in lower travel times and travel costs, and a decrease in the speed of road deterioration as the deterioration process starts from scratch. The more deteriorated the road is, the more intensive cost the repairs will be.

The PHA objective is to contribute improving the general operation of the transport system with a view to supporting economic growth and reducing poverty.

More specifically, the rehabilitation of roads aims at improving the level of service of the roads concerned, reducing transport costs on these roads and providing better access to basic services.

The field inspection activities provide valuable opportunities to assess the quantity and quality of the performance of road maintenance works. Challenges are always listened; an advice are given to the road maintenance team for the works have to be satisfactorily undertaken.

This project was funded by Puntland government and will be completed within a month as planned
